Not too long ago, I noticed that Google Finance got a makeover. The new interface seems a bit more crowded to me. I think I like the old portal which was simpler and looked “cleaner”. Will it soon look like Yahoo Finance?

Which do you prefer? Yahoo Finance or Google Finance? Or is it some other site that you turn to first for checking up on your portfolio and stock news?

If you have a Google or Yahoo account, you can set your own personalized portfolio to show you the stocks that you own or are currently tracking. The portfolio page will also include news items and blog posts related to any of the stock tickers that you include in your portfolio. So this is just a convenient way for me to keep up with company news.

    MarketWatch Portfolio Tool

    Market Watch has a new portfolio tool that I like. Compared to Yahoo Finance or Google Finance, the interface is more intuitive and the data is presented in such a way that you can really get a good overview of your entire portfolio on the page. Of course, you can customize the views by selecting your own parameters. For charting, I still prefer Yahoo Finance's tool better.

    Nice Bounce For FCX, MW

    I wrote about watching these stocks previously and looks like they have made some gains since then. FCX is now into the low $90's and MW closed at $26.22 on Friday (nice since I got in on MW at around $20). I think that MW has a solid management and will continue to do well. It has risen over 40% from it's low a couple of weeks ago. The P/E is still below 8. The insiders are buying MW, so that's a good sign too. [tags]FCX, Freeport McMoran, MW, Men's Wearhouse[/tags]

    The Dow Drops Almost 300 Points

    The Fed's 0.25% rate cut did little to boost the financial markets. In fact, the effect was the opposite as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 294 points. Financial stocks in particular got hit hard, including some of my favorites - Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch. This is a good opportunity to pick up some stocks at a discount. We'll have to keep an eye out for what the markets will do tomorrow morning. [tags]Dow Jones, stock market[/tags]
